Are you spooked by the idea of going upside down 😱? If you are, you're not alone! 🙃Going upside down can feel really scary! An inversion is any posture where the heart is above the head (so downward dog is technically an inversion) or anything where the feet are over the heart (think shoulderstand, headstand, handstand)…There are loads of physical and mental benefits of inversions; they improve circulation, boost the lymphatic system, enhance spinal health, build strength and balance and they can relieve stress, calm the mind and boost mood and energy. The journey to inverting can be challenging physically but also mentally! We need to shift our perspective and have faith and courage that we are prepared and we have what it takes. Often the journey is made up of lots of small steps so we can take time to build confidence and the best way to travel along the journey to inversions is to just keep trying...with no expectation or attachment to the outcome. Tonight we will build a balance of strength and mobility so we will spend most of the class stretching out the shoulders and building strength in our core, arms and shoulders so we feel safe and secure if/when the time feels right to go upside down. The clocks go back this weekend, meaning an extra hour in bed (whoop!) and an earlier sunset. This is when I really feel the shift of the seasons, when the night's draw in, and there's a feeling of cosiness as the fairy lights twinkle ✨️ I am really sensitive to day light and at this time of year when I know the balance is tipping towards darkness, I find myself slowing down and enjoying every colour; savouring the daylight and the beautiful burst of nature's palette before the dormancy of winter- this photo is Swinsty reservoir this week and the colours really were this phenomenonal! Often, in our busy lives, we find it hard to slow down, and sometimes it feels like an indulgence to take time out and rest, but this self-care is necessary so we can support ourselves physically and mentally. So tonight, I invite you to slow down your day as we use our deep breaths to move slowly deeper as we stretch out the whole body from head to toe, with special attention to the hips and groin. Each breath is coupled with a subtle energetic direction and movement of the body, helping us to stay present and explore to find the sweet release of tension. We're celebrating the wonderful mechanics of the spine this evening. The spine is a complex arrangement of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, discs, a spinal cord and nerves so keeping the spine supple and healthy helps support us through life. A few places left for Fold into Fall afternoon of yoga!Sunday 19th October 1I absolutely love this time of year; watching the daily changes in nature, the beautiful colours of the leaves, the crisp fresh air and the feeling of cosiness as the night's draw in.Autumn is a season of change and transformation, letting go and taking stock. Unlike summer where a lot of our energy and focus are directed outward, autumn is the season to turn inwards, to wonder and reflect. Just as the trees lose their leaves in autumn so we must let go of anything we no longer need, whether that’s clutter in the house, an attachment to summer, negative thought patterns or old beliefs that are no longer serving us. By letting go we create the space to welcome in the new. This will be the theme of the Autumn afternoon of yoga where we will slow down, nurture and rest so we can embrace the season of change and nourish our body and mind.The afternoon will open with a calming mindfulness meditation accompanied with Pranayama (breath work) to settle you and develop a sense of physical, emotional & spiritual well being. Followed by a gentle slow flow to build a little heat and release tension. We will then take a break with some warming vegan refreshments. Then slowing down even more with supportive and nourishing restorative yoga to relax & unwind. Finishing with a lovely long relaxation guiding you into a deep rest.Open to all (including beginners). Limited places are available so booking is essential.
